The Old Globe, a Tony Award-winning theatre and one of the country’s leading regional LORT B+ theatres seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Prop Director. Position is responsible for providing stage properties and decor in support of The Old Globe’s 15 show season and community events. The Old Globe is known for producing a broad range of work from Shakespeare and the classical repertoire to world premiere musicals and plays, touring productions, and Arts Engagement events. In this role, you’ll get to work with some of America’s best scenic designers, directors, and creative teams working in our three theatres located in San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park. The prop shop is located at the Globe’s theatre and adjacent to the rehearsal halls.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Prop Director is a key member of our properties office team, working under the direction of the Properties Director and closely with the other Assistant Prop Director you will work with the props team to plan, create, collect, shop, and fabricate stage properties.  Duties include creating props lists, budgets, and props designs; shopping for materials and props; supporting rehearsals and show crews; accounting for production and department related expenses; and other duties including attending rehearsals, meetings, and techs as a representative of the department.

Desired Knowledge and Experiences: progressive experience in props departments, including fabrication of stage properties, show running, purchasing, and expense tracking. Knowledge of weapons handling, safety protocols, work with live flame, and associated permits. Knowledge of historical time periods in relation to theatrical props.

Desired Skills: Props fabrication, computer skills (office suite, drafting programs, graphics programs), effective verbal and written communication. Candidates should be able demonstrate effective organization skills and the ability to work on simultaneous projects.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs., valid Driver’s license, overtime required.

Full-time, hourly position with benefits including 401(k), vacation, health insurance, and holidays. The hourly pay range is $23.00-24.87.
